SPASS AND CHANGE FOR THE GANZE FAMILY
From the highest top-of-the-road in Europe to relaxing massages and the most beautiful huts for the apres-ski party: A winter holiday in Saalbach is packed with varied activities that make winter in Salzburger Land even more beautiful.
We, your hosts Katrin and Roland Steger, will tell you today our ten most beautiful activities for the winter season with us in Saalbach.
1. Guided winter hike
Anyone who thinks that hiking is wonderful only in the warm months of the year should absolutely convince yourself of the opposite! Crunching snow under your feet, deep snowy winter landscapes, … do we have to say more? Guided winter hikes take place every Thursday from December to April in Saalbach. And participation is even free!
when? Every Thursday
Meeting? 10:00 a.m. at the Hinterglemm Tourist Office
Distance? About 3 hours
Registration? Not required
If you are already looking forward to the warm hiking season, take a look at the most beautiful hiking routes in Saalbach Hinterglemm for the whole family. Perfect to get gusto and be inspired!
2. Torchlight hike with Rudi
Because it is so beautiful, we stay with hiking. Because even right in front of our own hotel door, people are walking in winter. More specifically in the dark, equipped with a torch and accompanied by senior chef Rudi. On top of that, there are exciting stories about life in Saalbach Hinterglemm.
when? Every Monday
Route? From the hotel to St. John’s Chapel
Distance? About 1 hour
Registration? At the reception
3. Wine tasting with Roland
If you want to taste yourself through the numerous tastes of the wines of diploma sommelier Roland, this is best done at a wine tasting with the chef personally.
Just ask at the reception!
4th apres-ski party
What should not be missing on a ski holiday? A hearty apres-ski party! Every Thursday evening in our hotel the famous garage festival is on the agenda. Glühwein, music, Maroni, Alpenburger and exuberant atmosphere await you! If you want to get a taste of après-ski air at lunchtime, the best place to do so is in one of our favorite huts for a refreshment stop.
5. Enjoy the sun at noon on the hut
We stay at the most beautiful huts in the region. Because of course we understand this: If you only have one week a year to ski, you have to make the most of it. Nevertheless, you should also take a break and enjoy the wonderful weather. Let yourself shine for a while at lunch the sun on your nose and enjoy the moment!
6. Try new things
Whether ski touring, cross-country skiing, paragliding or snowtubing. Anyone who experiences new things on holiday has a lot to tell at home. The Saalbach Hinterglemm region offers numerous opportunities to make the time varied.
Just ask at the reception!
7. Time for relaxation
Switch off, leave everyday life behind and allow the muscles time to regenerate. Relaxation must not be neglected! How about a soothing foot massage, for example?
8. Walking to a hut and tobogganing
Last time you sat on a toboggan as a child? Then you should definitely repeat this fun! Hike to one of the numerous huts in Saalbach Hinterglemm and ride a toboggan into the valley. This is not only fun for small holidaymakers!
Our tip: The Reiterkogel toboggan run. Equipped with tobogganing (available at the valley station) it goes up to the Wieseralm and the illuminated toboggan run down.
9. Floodlight skiing
“Because Skifoan is des Leiwondste” – at any time of the day. That’s why you should definitely take your turns on a floodlight runway!

10. Alternative program for lacklustre kids: Golden Gate & Tree Zip Path
If the little ones don’t fancy a day of skiing, the region offers a colourful alternative program. For example, the Golden Gate Bridge of the Alps and the Baumzipfelweg, both of which are also wonderful hikes in winter. Both the Baumzipfelweg – incidentally the highest treetop hike in Europe – and the Golden Gate Bridge of the Alps are located at the head of the valley in Saalbach Hinterglemm.
As you can see: There are no limits to the possibilities for spending your winter vacation in Saalbach Hinterglemm!
We wish you a magical winter holiday with us at the Barbarahof :-)
