How time flies! Now it doesn’t take long and my training years at the Barbarahof are – unfortunately – already over. It’s time to have a few thoughts wandering.
I grew up in The Flachgau in Salzburg, in Grödig. Together with my whole family, on a beautiful farm at the foot of the Untersberg. I attended the housekeeping school in Klessheim, really an unforgettable time. The normal theory lessons were followed by gardening, cleaning, laundry, sewing, barn work and, of course, cooking. I’m really happy for each of these subjects, but i was really good at cooking back then. I then did my internship in the retirement home in Grödig, but not in the kitchen, but in home help and care for the elderly. Even this time, I count as the most beautiful in my life so far. There is hardly anything that makes me more happy than working with the elderly. But one thing was clear to me: I don’t want to go back to school so quickly :-)
Since my mum and sister started a new phase of my life in Saalbach a few years before me, I also decided to move to Saalbach Hinterglemm 2 1/2 years ago. I wanted to get to know something new, start an education in the mountains and just find a way to get away from my dear homeland. At that time with the basic idea: “After my apprenticeship, I will probably go back…”
I remember the day when it all started. Through Sophie, who also works in the hotel, I became aware of the Barbarahof. Since I was looking for an apprenticeship, I immediately took the opportunity and tried to get a job interview. Of course I was very nervous, but the insanely sympathetic and cordial kind of Katrin and Roland made for a relaxed conversation. Honestly, at first I was a little afraid that my awakened, loud, cheeky, bubbly but down-to-earth manner wouldn’t fit into this house at all. But I quickly put those thoughts back on track.
From that day on, everything was clear, I will be part of Team Barbarahof’s. From the first day at work I felt poodle-like! The family interaction in the hotel, all the joy and good mood let me start every day with the best mood. Yes, the kitchen has really become an important part of me. Cooking with the boss is a lot of fun for me, not only from a professional point of view, because you always have a few minutes for private conversations. I love working with fresh food, preparing delicious food and also baking the breakfast cakes. … during our season-opening excursion in December ☺
I am grateful to be able to work here – to have such great bosses, to spend every day with wonderful colleagues, to cook for all the dear guests and to gain new experiences again and again. Even though working in gastronomy is not always easy, I am glad that I am now going down this path. For a long time I will remain part of the Barbarahof and continue to mix up the kitchen a bit :-)
Finally, I can only say one thing: “To my beloved homeland, I probably won’t go back… I found everything that is important to me and my happiness in Saalbach. My friends come to visit me often and I also spend a lot of time in Grödig. I will also stay in the catering industry and also start a voluntary work in the retirement home, because I cannot turn off the love of our older people. I would also like to thank Katrin and Roland: for giving me the chance in their kitchen, for always having an open ear for me and for making my time at the Barbarahof an unforgettable one. Thank you!”
On Sunday we closed the hotel again and now look back on an eventful winter season. Now it’s time for us employees to switch off and enjoy some vacation before we open again at the end of May for the summer season!
I wish everyone a nice spring and frohE OSTERN!
Greetings from Saalbach
