Bad weather! What for some means bad mood is a cause for joy for us. Because even on days when thick drops fall from the sky, there is so much to discover during the summer holiday in Saalbach. From indoor sports facilities to relaxing hours in the wellness area to a trip to the surroundings of the holiday region.

We, your hosts Karin and Roland Steger, will tell you today our favorite activities for bad weather days. And tomorrow? The sun is definitely shining again!

BAD WEATHER TIP 1: INDOOR SPORTS

If you don’t want to give up physical activity even on rainy days, you have every reason to be happy: you don’t have to! The holiday region Saalbach Hinterglemm offers numerous opportunities to use rainy days for sport.

Climbing max and rock acrobats beware: Sage and write 4,000 square meters of pure climbing pleasure await in the climbing hall Saalfelden. If you visit a climbing hall for the first time, it is best to practice on the 150 square metre indoor bouldering area. And if the sun still shows up, almost 300 square meters of outdoor climbing area provide even more variety. You can reach the Saalfelden climbing hall in less than 30 minutes by car.

Tip: Tennis lovers prefer to spend rainy hours in the indoor tennis hall in Hinterglemm.

BAD WEATHER TIP 2: LET YOUR SOUL DANGLE

In summer, do you really like the fresh air in the morning, where you spend the whole day actively hiking or cycling? And that is not possible today! Don’t get annoyed, but use the rainy days to take a really nice breather. Put your legs up, read your favorite book and let the rain rain. You will see: Such a day in the wellness area gives new energy to rediscover the Saalbach region the next day!

SCHLECHTWETTER-TIPP 3: DISCOVER THE WORLD’S GREATEST ICE CREAM

Only about 80 kilometres from Saalbach, in Werfen, you will find a very special spot on earth: the largest ice cave in the world. From the end of April to the end of October, the cave is open daily and attracts thousands of visitors during this time. Good to know: If you want to visit the ice cave, you should dress warmly, because inside the temperature is usually below zero degrees. Solid shoes, warm clothes, hoods and gloves are therefore not only a recommendation, but a must.

BAD WEATHER TIP 4: DISCOVER SALZBURG

On bad weather days, numerous excursion destinations are available around Saalbach. For example, the city of Salzburg, which you can reach in about one and a half hours by car with little traffic. The most beautiful indoor destinations in the city of Salzburg:

  • Culture: Museums as far as the eye can see! Whether in the family-friendly House of Nature, in the Cathedral Quarter, in the Toy Museum or on a visit to Mozart’s birthplace. Thanks to the varied museum landscape, the rainy day in the city of Mozart becomes an unforgettable day of vacation.
  • Shopping: Are you still missing that vacation souvenir for the people at home, or would you like to treat yourself to something? Then Salzburg is made for the shopping trip. Either in the Old Town (Cereal and Linzergasse), here best equipped with umbrella, or covered in one of the shopping centers of the city (Europark, Outlet-Center).
  • Indulgence: Salzburg is the city with the highest density of fine dining in Austria. And even more: In the city of Mozart you will find numerous traditional coffee houses, some of which have been around for more than 150 years. Enjoy homemade pastries and experience the flair of Mozart’s city!
